Religion has long stood at the root of many of humanity’s deepest divisions and manufactured fears, including the invention of opposing forces such as Satan. Judeo-Christian belief systems—both religious and anti-religious—have functioned as mechanisms of control, shaping obedience through guilt, fear, salvation, and rebellion alike.
There can be no Satan without God, and no God without the mythology that sustains them. They are inseparable constructs—two faces of the same system—designed to define authority, suppress thought, and bind humanity within a closed spiritual hierarchy.
Both must be dismantled. Not through replacement, but through rejection.
No gods above.
No gods below.
Only the vast universe remains—indifferent, silent, and real.
In Darkness was born from transformation, not revival. The project emerged from the ashes of Resuscitator, a Los Angeles black metal band active in the late 1990s. Sacbe joined Resuscitator in 1998 and released two albums with the band, contributing to its raw, confrontational sound and early ideological direction. After the release of Warrior’s Death, founding member Summoner stepped away, bringing that chapter to a natural end.
While Sacbe continued writing, the music and lyrical vision had evolved beyond Resuscitator’s framework. The themes no longer aligned—what once centered on rebellion and darkness expanded into a broader philosophical confrontation with religion, power, and human ignorance. Rather than forcing continuity, Sacbe chose separation.
In Darkness exists to explore what remains after gods collapse. It rejects religious dualism—God and Satan as opposing forces—and exposes them as interdependent constructs born of the same mythology. The project focuses instead on the vast, indifferent universe, the impermanence of humanity, and the weight of existence without divine narratives. This is black/doom metal as reflection and reckoning: cold, heavy, and uncompromising.
Resuscitator was the first true step in Sacbe’s development as a musician and artist. It served as both foundation and catalyst, shaping his early creative direction and discipline within black metal. Shortly after joining Resuscitator, Sacbe met Daniel, a highly inspirational drummer whose presence transformed the band from its rustic beginnings into a powerful and aggressive force.
Together with Summoner, the founder of Resuscitator, the band recorded Cursed Vision from His Infernal Realm only six months after Sacbe joined. The rapid completion of the album was the result of strong musical chemistry and shared intensity, allowing the band to evolve at an unusually fast pace.
Unfortunately, Daniel later left the band and passed away in 2009. Not long after, Summoner also went his own way, leaving Sacbe alone to complete the final project, Warrior’s Death, which was already halfway finished. Originally intended to be titled Re-initiation, Sacbe renamed it Warrior’s Death as a burial for Resuscitator—marking the end of a meaningful chapter.
The released albums, along with rehearsal recordings featuring Daniel on drums, remain available as a testament to the band’s legacy.
Daniel as well as Summoner remain a great inspiration for Sacbe and In Darkness.
